Decreasing Your Metabolism With Everyday Activities

by | Dec 17, 2019 | Fitness Training Center

If you’re trying to lose weight but not seeing results, then you might need to consider your metabolism. Certain habits could be decreasing your metabolism, which can make it difficult to lose weight – or gain it, if that’s your goal! An option to consider is a physical fitness program, so that your blood and oxygen can provide nourishment for your body faster than if you were to sit all day.

Habits that might be affecting your metabolism include:

Not Eating Enough

Although it might seem like eating less would result in weight loss, it can actually slow your metabolism. When your body doesn’t get enough calories during the day, it enters what’s known as ‘‘starvation mode.’’ This means that your body begins relying on stored fat, and will often decrease the number of calories burned. Try to maintain a healthy calorie intake from healthy foods so that your body’s functions stay balanced.

Movement

When you don’t move around during the day, your body doesn’t need to burn as many calories. Once you begin a physical fitness program, your body will begin burning more calories. Try to stand up at least a few times a day while at work or take a walk when you get home to begin burning as many calories as possible.

Sleep

Not getting the sleep that you need each night can lead to or aggravate several health issues, including depression and diabetes. Your metabolism could also suffer if you don’t get adequate sleep, resulting in weight gain instead of weight loss.
